“I highly recommend Shan as a yoga instructor. I don’t believe that I would be this mobile today without her. I was told by my doctor that I had the best range of motion she has ever seen 9 months after surgery. Yoga is amazing… I had not experienced yoga before all of this. Shan works with you to make sure that you start slow and easy… So healthy! So not only is she a Yoga instructor but also an all around amazing human being. The words I would use to describe her will not do her justice but here it goes: Empowering, Empathetic, Care Giver, Loving, Peaceful, Honest, and Humanitarian. Her classes empower you when you feel helpless, bring you peace of mind when you are anxious and stressed, renew your clarity in the fog that is chemo brain, and her smile reaches out and lets you know…you are OK! I don’t think I could live without yoga now, and the reality of the situation is that it just makes you healthier physically and mentally. This is a long and arduous journey, but you can make it, this class just makes the journey a little easier.” Jill~
“Yoga came into my life when I was feeling more vulnerable and depleted than I had ever been my whole life. Breast cancer worries and decisions were consuming my whole life. I was at a very low point when I found Shan’s yoga. After I started a series of weekly special classes with Shan my whole life slowly changed. Through yoga and with Shan’s gentle guidance I was able to accept where my life was, and work my way through my grief. Her yoga is restorative both physically and mentally. She puts her heart and soul into her work, and gently weaves a path through your negative energy. I was so stiff and sore after my surgeries. She found ways to gently work those sore muscles and tissues back into something better than I was before my surgeries. I have self confidence now that I never had even before breast cancer became a part of my life. Yoga with Shan is magical, peaceful, quiet, empathetic and powerful. I have never met anyone quite like her. You don’t need to be flexible, strong or athletic to do yoga. She taught me to just breathe for now. The rest will come over time. I never knew I didn’t know how to breathe. Yoga is all about breathing and being thankful for the gift of any kind of movement big or small. Shan taught me to learn to live in the present moment. I remember her saying in one of my first classes. Acknowledge those negative worrisome thoughts in your head, treat them like a cloud drifting by, and tell them you will deal with them later. Right now you are busy living in the present moment. I am so grateful I met Shan and she started this class for cancer survivors. I can no longer imagine my life without yoga. I will always be grateful for her loving kindness and caring she has for others and teaching me that I can do this.” Cindy~
Yoga lessons with Shan are one of the best things I've ever done for myself. She instinctively knows what I need each week and thus my practice is different every time. Shan connects on a level far beyond teacher/student and she has brought calmness, patience, and wisdom into my life. I cherish my time with her!
Strength, balance, range of motion... Attributes I enjoyed without effort until I reached my mid sixties and realized I could no longer take my body for granted. Yoga struck me as a great practice to aging well, but the idea of joining classes filled with 30 somethings was intimidating. A friend taking private lessons from Shan encouraged me to do the same. Initially I felt private lessons were an indulgence I could not afford, but after considering it was no different than taking private music or dance lessons, and knowing how invaluable keeping my body fit as I age will be, I contacted Shan. I have been taking private lessons for over a year, and will continue as long as she offers them. Shan is an excellent teacher: Extremely good at yoga (and life), emotionally present during lessons, and intuitive about what her students need. I look forward to our weekly lessons knowing I will not only get what my body needs, but my heart too.
